Enhancing Community: The Art of TogethernessThis session will explore the role of art therapy in supporting individuals as they age. A broad range of topics will be covered, including an overview of art therapy as a practice; the role of art therapy in creating and sustaining community; guiding people through grief and loss; supporting aging artists; opening new avenues for expression and self-exploration as we age; and how eldercare professionals can include art in their work.
Presenters:Kristen Larsen, ATR, LPC, LAT is a licensed art therapist and professional counselor whose career has been dedicated to supporting older adults. In 2011, Kristen co-founded artworks at Willamette View, a unique and one-of-a-kind art and art therapy program. Artworks facilitates a wide variety of creative programming for residents of Willamette View Life Plan Community, their families, and staff members. Erin Partridge, PhD, ATR-BC is an artist and a board certified, registered art therapist. She is also a certified forest therapy guide. Her clinical experience includes work in community, pediatric, forensic, and geriatric settings and she is published in the areas of art therapy, elder care, research methods, and technology. Her research interests incorporate the lived experience and focus on participatory, ethnographic, and art-based approaches. Intended Audience:This presentation is relevant to individuals with general interest in creativity and aging in addition to professionals working with older adults in a variety of settings including long-term care, health care or a community center. It is also appropriate for artists, educators, researchers, and students in the field of art therapy, counseling, gerontology, sociology, and social work. Registration Fee
