Many of the jobs in aging and disAbilities rely on public funding at the local, state or federal level. Lawmakers rely on all of us for accurate information as they balance priorities among important issues including senior services, housing, transportation and health care. How can people in the aging and disAbilities network effectively advocate for the programs and services so many of our vulnerable adults rely on as effective advocates? And if you are constrained by your governmental or nonprofit restrictions on lobbying, when and how can you effectively advocate? What are the top issues aging and disAbilities advocates are seeking legislative action on in 2019?

Presenter: Join Jerry Cohen, JD, MPA, for a lively discussion on talking to decision makers, councilors and legislators in the most effective ways! Jerry recently retired as AARP Oregon’s state director and has been a successful advocate and lobbyist for 30 years. Anyone who works in the nonprofit or public sector will benefit from Jerry’s legal and “on-the-ground” expertise. And as an added bonus, he will be joined by key lobbyists Jon Bartholomew and Dale Penn who can speak to the 2019 session.

Light lunch will be provided!
