The intent of this presentation is to create understanding of what age and related changes may mean to choices of house and home and to introduce support for taking action.

Summary: 

This presentation will address how and when to use remodeling to stay at home as health-related changes occur, while still protecting the resale value of the home.

• Learn the considerations behind deciding whether to age in place or move to a new home, from the perspective of a Certified Aging in Place Specialist. 

Help with the Personal "Stuff" to Get Un-Stuck

Presenter:

• Kimberly Steele, Senior Move Manager and Organizer (Founder, Changing Places, LLC)   

Summary: 

This presentation will discuss the supports available for managing the logistics of downsizing and moving, as well as the supports available for organizing the home one is already in to respond to evolving needs.

Learning Objectives: 

• Learn what supports are available for older adults who need assistance with downsizing and organizing their home to maximize functionality and/or in preparation for moving to a new home.

Continuing Education Credits

Each session has been approved for 2 CE credits (NASW Oregon Chapter), AFH training credits, and DHS Administrator credits - that's a total of 8 CE credits if you attend the entire series. There will be a $10 fee per session for NASW credits. Regular Certificates of Attendance can also be issued.

To receive a certificate, attendees must attend the session(s) for their entire length and complete a post-session evaluation survey.

Rachel Hemmingson, Certified Seniors Real Estate Specialist, Licensed Oregon Realtor provides education, resources and facilitation for older adults facing age-related changes in relation to home and money. Her motivation stems from a broadly informed awareness of the potential crisis in affordability for places to live – specifically among older adults – both those who own homes and those who do not. She brings a collaborative, person-centric approach to clients via her license as a residential realtor since 2004, and her use of Home Equity Conversion Mortgages since 2016. She is among Oregon’s first Seniors Real Estate Specialists (SRES©) since 2006. Raised on a ranch in rural northern Minnesota, she brought her love of nature, capacity to find play and fun in the midst of serious work, and tenacity to her life in Oregon, starting in 1977. Rachel has a BS in Communications and Business Management and several specialized certifications under the real estate umbrella. She is a speaker, educator and soon-to-be podcaster.

Jackie Haddon, Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS), Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES), Licensed Oregon Realtor is also a wife, volunteer and mom of three. Her work is focused on project consultation, accessible design, supporting seniors with housing-related life transitions and representing voices in the remodeling industry who have historically been marginalized. She focuses on remodeling seniors' homes to better meet their needs while maintaining the resale value of the home. She also facilitates moves for seniors, assisting with getting them to housing that better meets their needs and selling their existing home. A licensed clinical social worker for most of her career, she is deeply committed to standing up for the rights of others to live with dignity and advocating for equitable access to education, healthcare and housing.

Kimberly Steele, Senior Move Manager and Organizer, MBA received a Business Degree from the University of Washington and an MBA from the University of Southern California and spent almost 20 years as a college professor. Most of her focus was on the online MBA Capstone program, but she also taught in management, marketing, and leadership. As her family grew up and began their own lives, it was time to pivot. A turning point in her quest for the ‘next chapter’ came from an Escrow Officer who shared how difficult it was to be a senior in transition. Drawing upon her own 17 personal moves and a deep connection to her grand and great-grandparents, Kimberly started Changing Places in 2017. Changing Places offers professional moving services for seniors, handling a variety of tasks, such as downsizing, re-homing items, conducting sales, packing, unpacking, shopping and contracting with like-minded professionals for tasks such as cleaning, junk removal and maintenance.
