Memory and Dementia Care Gardens

This presentation will showcase several gardens designed by Brian E Bainnson specifically for Memory and Dementia Care. He will talk about the features that make the gardens unique and provide a brief history on how the gardens came to be.

Presenters:

Brian E Bainnson

For over 20 years, Bainnson’s work has led the profession of landscape architecture into the design of therapeutic and healing gardens. In the process, his work has demonstrated that the design of spaces can make significant improvements in the mental, emotional, and physical health of people.

Bainnson has distinguished himself as one of a handful of national experts in the planning, design and construction of therapy and healing gardens. He has designed spaces to meet the critical needs of unique populations; from people afflicted with Alzheimer’s such as the Portland Memory Garden, to facilities designed to bring healing to military veterans, such as the Wounded Warrior and Family Center at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland.

Intended Audience:

This presentation is appropriate for anyone working with, providing services for or creating spaces for people dealing with Memory Care issues. The talk is geared to both health care and community settings.
